Travelling in Portugal, in the holidays, is something that makes me return to my childhood. I remember being a little girl and on one of those summer days me and my parents made our bags and went by car across the country. Often my cousins and grandmothers went with us too. So I visited a lot of Portuguese places and I always love to do it.
This year, my husband and I took our Vespa and drove to Aveiro (but with less luggage). This time, our cousins and grandmothers didn’t come with us, but we’ve stayed with cousins because there are things that never change.
During the trip we’ve decided to have lunch in Figueira da Foz, because travelling in Vespa is more like travelling in leisure, enjoying every landscapes and every moments. When we arrived there, I did not resist and we passed in the Cova Gala beach, where I had a vacation with my parents in 1991, and I still found the house where we stayed at the time.
Afterwards we arrived our destination and staying in Aveiro was wonderful. If we liked the city a lot, enjoying it for several days was even better.
Our cousins Celia and Joana were great companions of the walks in the city and Clemente surrendered himself to the photographs of his cousin photographer.
We had a tour on a typical boat called Moliceiro through the Ria, visited the salines, went to the beaches of Barra, Costa Nova and Vagueira, visited also the neighborhoods Beira-Mar and Alboi, with their houses full of tiles and we also went to the University, where the portuguese architect Siza Vieira designed the library building. And did you know that the browser sapo.pt was created by a group of students from the University of Aveiro? In addition, it is the city where some important figures of our society were born, such as the musician José Afonso (Zeca Afonso) and the journalist Fernando Pessa. “E esta, hein?”, the television journalist always ended his news reports with this phrase.
